About ReferralMS
ReferralMS is independent alternative provision software, built by people from the sector for people in the sector. We help schools, AP providers and local authorities manage referrals, compliance and safeguarding, and help families follow a young person’s journey through AP.
Built by the sector, for the sector
ReferralMS has been built by a team with many years of experience working in alternative provision, pupil referral units and mainstream schools. We have sat on both sides of the referral – placing young people as school staff and receiving them as providers – so we know first-hand where information gets lost and where children can slip through the gaps.
Every week, alternative provision providers receive referrals from schools, take registers, share safeguarding concerns, agree timetable changes and report progress back to the schools and local authorities that commission them. Too often that work still happens through emails, phone calls, paper forms and spreadsheets, where information is repeated, delayed or lost.
ReferralMS brings that work into one secure system. It is designed by people who have done the job, and new features are tested with working AP providers and the schools they support, so the software reflects how alternative provision really runs day to day.
Why it matters
Young people in alternative provision are often among the most vulnerable in the education system. Many have experienced suspensions or exclusions, unmet special educational needs or difficult circumstances at home. The adults responsible for them – at school, at the provider and at the local authority – need to see the right information at the right time. ReferralMS brings that information together securely, so nothing important falls through the gaps.

ReferralMS is developed and supported by Referral Management System Ltd. It is available to schools, academies, alternative provision providers and local authorities across England.
